Bernard Raxlen, MD, to Receive Pioneer in Lyme Award

All four Gordon Medical practitioners plan to attend the upcoming ILADS conference in Boston.  Our PA, Carolyn Welcome, has a special reason to be present this year, when the Pioneer in Lyme Award dinner on November 1, 2019 will honor the lifetime achievement of Bernard D. Raxlen, MD, a founding member and past Board member of ILADS.

As the ILADS website points out, “Dr. Raxlen is well known in the medical community for his intellectual vigor and warm sense of humor. ILADEF, the research arm of ILADS, is sponsoring the event and will be the beneficiary of funds raised that evening. ILADEF sponsors the Physician Training Program, which has helped train hundreds of Lyme experts.”

Dr. Raxlen has successfully treated Lyme patients for over 30 years, including some of the most refractory cases. He has practiced in three states, all endemic areas for Lyme and related infections: Connecticut, New York, and now New Jersey. Carolyn began her career in the treatment of tick-borne disease at Lyme Resource Medical, Dr. Raxlen’s practice in New York, where she had the privilege of being trained by Dr. Raxlen and working closely with him for nearly seven years.

Since moving to California, Carolyn has enjoyed seeing Dr. Raxlen at ILADS events, such as the ILADS Conference in Chicago in 2018, and most recently at the ILADS Scientific Conference on Tick-Borne Diseases and Mental Illness in San Francisco, where Dr. Raxlen was one of three featured speakers.
